After some consideration,  I am announcing that, for the first time in 6 campaigns,  neither I personally nor any "volunteers" will be engaged in door to door canvassing in the coming campaign this Fall.  While I very much value the input and interaction with constituents, I have come to the conclusion that it is neither appropriate nor responsible to expect people to answer their door to strangers in this time of pandemic.  You will hear from me, by mail and by as many individual phone calls that I can make.  If I miss you, please feel free to call my home office number, 847-356-4167 or email me at to discuss county issues and/or my platform.  I am looking forward to speaking with as many of you as possible.

As we are all aware, the political climate on the national, state and local level has become problematic, at best.  I believe that there is a need for those of us who are willing to listen to both sides, who are willing to respect other points of view, who treat their colleagues and their constituents with the respect that they deserve.  It is for this reason that I announce my intention to run for another term on the Lake County Board.

It has been my honor to serve on the Lake County Board for the last 18 years.  The voters of the 7th district have seen fit to reelect me 5 times.  Some of the issues of which I am most proud are the successful initiative to make Lake County Smoke Free, my fight against video gambling, the development of a financially sane, reasonable alternative to 53, bringing Lake Michigan water to the Northwest portion of the district, the opening of a new trail connecting Rollins Savanna to western Gurnee,  and the fight to save Winchester House.  A new one has just been announced, a Crisis Hot Line for all human services in Lake County, called 211.  A project in the works is a crisis care center, where our law enforcement officers can take people who have no business in jail or hospital emergency rooms. These and other issues have made my public service rewarding beyond measure.

I have been successful in 5 campaigns.  I have never put out an “attack” piece trashing my opponent, and I will not do so in the coming campaign.  My message will be about who I am, what I represent, what I have done and what I will do on the Board.  I am proud of my record and I will run on it.

Thanks for your help and see you in November...

Steve Carlson

I just found out, unfortunately, that political signs are allowed ALL YEAR, in Gurnee. I hate to ask people to allow signs 90 days before the election. I will wait a while, not sure how long. If you live in the district and will take one, let me know.

Herald Endorsement!

COVID-19 Has taken a terrible toll on residents and businesses.  And incumbent District 7 Board Member Steve Carlson of Grandwood Park points  out that this is just the beginning: Lake County officials need to be ready to make tough decisions.   We believe Carlson’s experience – coupled with a compassionate yet realistic approach – makes him best suited to face the challenges ahead.  Carlson, a Republican, has a strong record of accomplishments, including his efforts to launch 211 Lake County, a 24 hour information and referral hotline.  Plus, he has shown a willingness to work across the aisle and demonstrated respect for differing ideas.  We have enthusiastically endorsed Carlson in the past.  We do so again.

Lake County Forest Preserves

 is feeling happy.

Yeah! 🎉 We're excited to announce the opening of a new community trail connection resulting from a partnership with the Village of Gurnee to provide safe and direct access to forest preserve trails. 🚴‍♀️ 🥾 This 0.4-mile trail links the Village's existing bike path and several residential areas to Rollins Savanna and the Millennium Trail. Check it out and share photos of your trail experience with us @LCFPD.

good day today...

Attended Health and Community Services meeting where a young lady approached me and told me that my opponent had knocked on her door. She asked me if I would put my sign in her yard. Made my day. 😊
